ABOUT
Pu-erh is an ancient delicacy native to the Yunnan region of China. Pu-erh tea is unique from oolong tea and black tea as the fermentation occurs because of bacteria rather than due to enzymes in the leaves. Our pu-erh tea is personally sourced by our friend Mark of Teas of Gaia. This pu-erh comes loose leaf for ease of use.
Sheng pu-erh is harvested from large-leaf Assamica tea trees. The leaves are lightly steamed and then pressed into ‘cakes’ or discs of tea, or left loose. The leaves are then naturally fermented over time, creating rich and complex flavours that are highly prized.
BREW
Learning traditional brewing methods and rituals can lead to a more intricate drinking experience, but beginners can brew simply by following these easy instructions…
- Per cup, add around 1 tbsp (or 4g) of loose puerh to an infuser or tea bag.
- Rinse the puerh leaves with a small amount of hot water, discard the water.
- Then add the infuser or tea bag into a mug and pour hot (not quite boiling) water over it.
- Steep for up to 4 minutes then serve.
